Vision
Rosetta’s motto, ‘Everyone’s invited, everyone’s included, everyone’s encouraged’ encapsulates what we as a school want for our school community. We want Rosetta to be a place where everyone feels invited to join, and welcomed when they do so. We are a school where the curriculum is accessible to all, and everyone is included in all the activities. Everyone is encouraged to do their best; we have high expectations for all in work and behaviour.
Our core value is respect – respect for self, respect for others and respect for the environment.
Respecting ourselves means we know that we are of value and deserve to be treated with respect. We want the best for ourselves and so work hard and behave appropriately.
Respect for others means we treat others with respect, acknowledging that we have many different skills, abilities and opinions.
Respect for the environment means we look after our property and that of others. We respect our world and are aware of the impact of our actions on habitats, plants, animals and people.
We have high expectations, believing that good behaviour makes achieving learning potential more likely and makes school a happy place for all. Children are expected to try their best and take pride in their achievements.
We promote inclusivity, celebrating different skills, faiths, languages and cultures.
We have a positive ethos, choosing to focus on strengths, while accepting that we will face difficulties which we will develop strategies to help manage.
We want everyone in Rosetta to be respected and respectful, resilient and confident in who they are with the skills they need to succeed.
We achieve our vision by:
Inviting: Rosetta welcomes children from all faiths and none: religion is not part of our admissions criteria. We have good relationships with local preschools. Our parents are positive about the school in our local community, prospective parents are invited to visit the school. Admissions are advertised by displaying banners in the community and using social media platforms. Our school holds events to which the community are invited (e.g. Summer Fair) and takes part in events organised by the local community e.g sports clubs, youth organisations, parent support groups. Children are welcomed as they come to school each morning and the good relationships between pupils and parents and staff create a welcoming environment within school.
Including: Differentiation is a key part of teaching to enable all children to make progress. Additional support is provided in school and by external agencies such as EA Literacy Service and Harberton Outreach Support. All children can take part in events that are part of school life such as school shows and school trips. The children are encouraged to develop leadership skills through the P1/P7 buddy system, Digital Leaders and School and Eco School Councils. After school activities are open to all, Friends of Rosetta (PTA) have secured funding to reduce the cost of these activities. Support is given to children whose home language is not English, there is also a class for their parents which develops their English language skills and fosters a sense of community and inclusion. We are proud to be a School of Sanctuary.
Encouraging: Everyone in school is encouraged to have pride in their achievements. Everyone’s work is displayed, everyone’s work is marked and praised for achieving learning intentions. Each class has a ‘Star of the Week’, who is celebrated in Assembly. Achievements within and outside of school are celebrated and shared on social media and on the Rosetta Reporter (the weekly school newsletter.) The positive ethos encourages children to have a go, to see mistakes as opportunities for learning. Children, staff and parents are supportive of one another. There are good home school links, with two parent teacher meetings and a written report annually, so school and home together can celebrate and encourage progress.
